Safety

Safety is a top priority at Canyon Concrete, Inc. We want every employee to return home each day with no injuries. Training is the single most important element of Canyon Concrete's safety program because it makes the employees aware of the hazards of concrete construction. New employees are given a safety briefing and drug screening during their in-processing. The safety briefing covers the basics of construction safety and the employees are required to sign an acknowledgement form.

Periodically, the OSHA 10-hour safety course and the MSHA new miners' safety course are conducted for new employees. MSHA 8-hour refresher training is also conducted annually. Field supervisors are also trained and certified using the Red Cross First Aid/CPR program. Employees that will be operating heavy equipment are trained, tested and licensed to operate the equipment. At a minimum the equipment training includes lift trucks, crawler loaders, scissor lifts, and boom manlifts. Toolbox talks are also conducted weekly by the superintendents, and monthly by the safety manager. This training keeps safety at the forefront of the employee's minds.

Canyon Concrete also offers a variety of training classes to other companies and individuals. Courses include the OSHA 10 and 30-hour Construction Safety and Health classes, MSHA New Miner, Annual Refresher, Experienced/Returning Miner classes, Red Cross First Aid/CPR classes, and DOT Drug and Alcohol training for drivers and supervisors.
